Marriage Rituals in Arya Samaj Weddings

Marriage Rituals in Arya Samaj Weddings

Although, Arya Samaj marriages are mainly for Hindus, any couple from Non-Hindu background can also be allowed to marry if he or she converts as Hindu by going through the process of Shuddhi i.e.
Purification. Arya Samaj wedding ceremonies are very simple and do have only few essential rituals such as Mehndi, Brahmbhoj (by which 16 brahmins invited for lunch), pholo ka gehna (by which bride has to adorn herself with jewelery and flowers) etc. At the wedding day, both bride and groom arrive at the wedding venue and perform the ritual of Madhuparka in which groom takes Madhuparka which is a mixture of curd, honey and ghee.  Then the ritual of varmala take place in which both bride and groom shares the garland of flowers as according to Indian custom and traditions. After that the ritual of kanyadaan takes place in which the parents of the bride take the hand of their daughter to groom. Then the rituals such as Havana, Pani Grahan, Thread ceremony, swagat vidhi, parikarma are followed. Lastly, the Arya samaj wedding ends with the Ashirwaad and Aarti ceremonies in which the couple is blessed by their elders.
